SOLD Stumpwork * £15 €30 $70 Shipping Included (Australia and New Zealand $75)

An excellent hardbook book of nearly 200 pages in virtually pristine condition except for the fact that at sometime in its life the book has taken a hard knock to the binding which has distorted it - look at the picture of the front of the book about on the level of the top of the purple frame and you will see - also the bottom corner of the book.
I knew an excellent lady called Beryl who makes fabulous stumpwork and it was insights into her techniques that really rounded out my education in 17th century embroidery.
It is important to examine historical needlework with a needleworker's eye - that is why I asked Eva-Lotta Hansen of the Royal School of Needlework and Elizabeth Feller who are both skilled practitioners to write about samplers in our books. Knowledge of the physical construction of some of the elements and the constraints the embroider was forced to negotiate just expanded beyond bounds my appreciation for stumpwork embroidery.
This book has beautiful and inspiring projects
together with detailed instructions for how to construct your own work.

  1. Lovely to see the wonderful Beryl mentioned. She does the most amazing work. Something to aspire towards.
